Forte dei Marmi
Overlooking the Ligurian Sea, in the green of Versilia and surrounded by the Apuan Alps, Forte dei Marmi is one of the most famous Italian holiday resorts in the world. Forte dei Marmi owes its fame to the very exclusive attendance of its beaches by people from the world of entertainment, sport, politics and finance.
Already towards the end of the 800th century, the wealthiest families of Tuscany and Northern Italy began to frequent the marina to enjoy the healthy air and to do the sandblasting, but the real consecration took place in the postwar period, in the famous 60's, when in the the most exclusive club in the area, "La Capannina", the greatest interpreters of Italian pop music begin to perform, first of all the famous Mina.
Nowadays it has remained a popular destination for the Italian and foreign upper middle class, much sought after and frequented by the new rich from Russia and Serie A footballers. Its beaches of fine gold-colored sand offer vacationers an exclusive environment, equipped with every comfort and suitable for families with children as well as gentlemen of a certain age.
In the town stands the grand ducal fort built at the end of the 800th century and to which it owes part of its name, today used in part as a Museum of Satire and Caricature. On the sea stands the loading wharf, on which large blocks of marble were piled up to be loaded onto ships leaving for the whole world already in Roman times.
Among the activities that can be practiced in Forte dei Marmi finally, apart from the long walks on foot and by bicycle in the splendid pine forest, folklore events such as the Palio dei Micci stand out and at the end of August the Palio dei Bagni (a regatta with skate among all the bathing establishments of Forte dei Marmi).
