The Tuscan Archipelago is full of paradisiacal islands, where the climate is always mild and during the summer the sun kisses the coves and beaches that overlook the clear Tyrrhenian sea. One of these is the Island of Capraia; this small island is the northernmost of the entire archipelago and National Natural Park and is inhabited by just over four hundred people residing in the small town of Capraia Porto.

The island of Capraia it is located in the Corsica Channel and the nearest inhabited centers are the French city of Bastia, in Corsica, and Livorno, from which the ferries arrive with which it is possible to reach the island.

The island of Capraia offers a very spartan type of tourism in the name of nature and the sun, the island is of volcanic origin and in fact one of the most evocative areas of this pleasant location is Cala Rossa, which is precisely born from a volcanic eruption cone still half visible.

However, the sea, nature and relaxation are not the only attractions of this ancient island; immersed in its tranquility you can find the remains of the ancient population who lived there from very remote times, just think that in this place until a few decades ago a language very similar to the Corsican language was spoken, an idiom that went disappearing the original population was gradually replaced by workers from the penal colony which was active on the island until 1986.

The places of greatest historical interest of the Island of Capraia however, Forte San Giorgio and the ancient church of Santo Stefano remain.

Given the type of tourism, much closer to nature than to the mass exodus of people in search of sea and fun, the island of Capraia has very few accommodation facilities but it is nevertheless possible to stay overnight without particular effort by booking your accommodation in time.

The tourist season is purely summer, in fact it begins at the end of April and ends with an unmissable event, the Squid Festival, which is held every year in early November.
